At this rate I don't think I'll ever make it to the ACTUAL wedding updates. I have 3000 pictures from the wedding day, so whenever I get around to that it will take me a good two months of wedding wednesdays to finish it up. Unless you want to see wedding pictures every day? I could handle that but I know most people couldn't.
Right after we got engaged I started to look online for invitations. It was HARD. I was being extremely picky and getting frustrated that they didn't have exactly what I was looking for. Even when I found some that I liked, just didn't love, it would have cost me almost $2000 dollars. AKA more than my freaking wedding DRESS. There was no way that I was going to pay that for something that most people throw away. (I say most because I'm that freak who keeps every single one I have ever received.)
Then a little light bulb went off - I wasn't going to find everything I wanted in an already made invitation. Why not have them custom made? I found an AMAZING designer and got the ball rolling. She actually is from Baton Rouge and lives on the same street as my sister-in-law, small world! I ended up combining two of her already made invitations so it was extremely affordable.
I also decided to include a map since most of our guests were out-of-town guests. I found this designer on etsy and it was $10. Seriously, I couldn't believe it either. I was going to make it myself but I took on way too many DIY projects, so for $10 I call this one a major win.
I printed them myself which also helped tremendously on reducing the costs. I found a great online printer - Cards & Pockets - and first ordered some sample papers to see what I liked. I ended up going with a white that has a hint of sparkle. (You can see it slightly in the first photo.) Nothing overwhelming, just a little extra touch to jazz it up a bit. And then I found the inner and outer envelopes online as well.
I can't find a photo of the address part of the envelopes, but I printed those myself, too. I found a fancy font online and spent 397239 hours in front of my printer doing each one. But it paid off, they looked AMAZING and my work pays for my ink so it was free. I like free! For the return address I bought a stamp on Etsy.
This was probably an extremely boring post for most of you, but I really loved our invites. Then again I am a really huge wedding nerd. Next week I promise I'll do something interesting - perhaps the rehearsal dinner. I think I had 5 margaritas that night...so that should reassure you that it was a good one.

oh wow these are gorgeous!! I had mine custom made too by our neighbor, it was definitely the way to go. i love the script you chose. so gorgeous! and $300 is excellent.
ReplyDeleteI am fighting the invitation battle right now. Everything I kinda-sorta like is going to cost me and arm and a leg! Last night I came to the conclusion I am going to print them myself and fingers crossed I find something on Etsy I like. What font did you order?
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love these! I really like the way your names are written!
ReplyDeleteFiling this little gem away for a rainy day (aka when I have to do this!)
I'm in love with your invites! A little pizzaaazzzzz with a bow on top! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe used Wedding Paper Divas for all of our wedding paper products and I loved them every step of the way. I can't remember the exact costs, but compared to hometown printers and such, they were like pennies!
You're a rockstar!!! We printed our own wedding programs and that was enough of a task for me ha! I loveee how all your invite stuff turned out- super cute, and kudos for doing it cheaper!!
ReplyDeleteOoooh love them! They are seriously gorgeous and I would have never guessed that they didn't cost you a bajillion doll hairs.
ReplyDeleteI love your invites..... I am getting married June 29 and have been doing the invite thing and like you had a very hard time finding something I love without paying an arm and a leg.... I was wondering what etsy shop did you use for your maps I love them and $10 is right up my alley.... Also since you did your own addressing how did you do it using what program and all?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful invitations! I had the same problem and ended up having my invitations custom designed on Etsy and printed at a local print shop. It was the best choice ever!
ReplyDeleteIf you would be interested in coming to NC for a few days, lets say over the summer, I could put you to work. We've got the invitation cards, rsvps, & envelopes but I still need to design and print. I found a deal I couldn't pass up, 25 invitation sets per box for $5 each. Ink will be the worst part and I'm considering sending them to a local print shop. They are quite beautiful and look like a million bucks!
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you saved soo much on your invitations and they came out beautifully! I might have to get in touch with you when the time comes for tips on how to save $$ :p
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about this! We're newly engaged and I'm definitely looking to make my own invitations so this is all such helpful information. I'm hoping to find a printer nearby so I can at least feel safe in designing them myself. This is my first time on your blog but it certainly won't be my last!!

Smart girl!! These invites are beautiful.... probably MORE beautiful than the ones that would have cost two grand. I just can't get over how ridiculous the price of "stuff" is for weddings. Do people really pay that much??
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the rest of your Wedding Wednesday posts :)
those are so beautiful!! I love LOVED seeing this. I recently got engaged and am looking for tips every where!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh I am in LOVE!!! these are so pretty! I had navy invitations as well :) I LOVE the idea of postcard RSVPs. What a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteokay your blog is SUPER cute...but honestly, I followed it before reading anything because I have a slight obsession with bows (and monograms...I actually gave my littles monogrammed bows to wear for reveals) so I just figured I'd love it. Yeah, basically, love this blog and I am so glad I stumbled across it!!!

We are in the middle of invitation hell right now. My brother is finishing up his AA in Graphic design and is making everything custom for us. I wish I had used a graphic designer I'm not related to. But I love your invites! So classy and fancy =)
