It's baaaack! But late, as always, because when I blog on my PC, everything else shuts down and gets slow and annoying. Mac for the win, again.
Last WW (forever ago), I gave you all some advice for the big day. Had you asked me prior to my wedding day to give that advice, it would have included "don't do a money dance." I think the money dance (or dollar dance) might be a southern thing, so some of you might be confused by this. It's basically a series of a few songs where people line up and pay you money to dance with you. My thoughts on this prior to the wedding? Tacky. But since pretty much EVERY wedding Andre' and I had been to prior to ours had one, I told him we could do one too.
My thoughts on ours? LOVED IT. And no, I'm not a brat, I didn't love it because we made a lot of money from it, I loved it because of how many people I got to dance with! This allows you another opportunity to interact with your guests, but in the most fun way possible - DANCING. What gets better than that?
My sister was the money collector - sorry, but nothing was getting pinned to my dress on my watch - and the line trafficker.

Then there was the part where my brother-in-law dropped me. Don't worry, I got right back up and more importantly - no champagne was spilled - but it was probably one of the funniest parts of the night.
Moral of the story: I still think they are kind of tacky, but I am glad we did it because of the chance to talk to more people throughout the reception. I still remember the sweet talk I had with A's friend/groomsman Ross and I will always remember/laugh about Chad dropping me. Memories :)
Bahahaha about you getting dropped. My brother in law would 100% do the same thing. We have only been to 1 wedding where they did this & no one knew to bring cash & it was rull awkward. Also, your side profile is what my side profile wishes it was.
ReplyDeleteThe money dance was a staple in Pennsylvanian weddings when I was growing up, and even now every one of my cousins that gets married includes it. That and the cookie table. I know I will DEFINITELY have both when I get married.

ReplyDeleteWe had a "dollar dance" at our wedding, too! I went back and forth on the "tacky" aspect of it, too....but it's a family tradition--so I had to. It was so special to dance with people I never would have had the chance to otherwise! Some of my favorite pictures are during the dollar dances. :)

ReplyDeleteI have been so back and forth about it. I have always thought it was T-A-C-K-Y, but when am I ever going to have the chance to dance with all of these people again?? UGH. Come to TN and plan my wedding please!

ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I felt about them. We got talked into doing it and now I'm really happy that we did. I got a chance to talk with a lot of guests that I only got to say hi to before the dance!
