don't give up

Oh hiiii, there. I was MIA yesterday because it was Fat Tuesday and we were being the typical Louisianians and catching beads and drinking beers. If I was on top of things, I would have scheduled a post...HA. Anyways:

We are Ellen watchers in our house. Not just the casual viewers who happen to tune in and watch when it's on - we DVR it and haven't missed an episode in three seasons. I've found that it's pretty impossible to have a bad day if you watch Ellen. Sure, I've had many of bad days, but right after I watch that day's episode, I can't help but think positive and end the day with a smile on my face. If you don't watch it, let me fill you in on a fun fact: Ellen is, without a doubt, one of the nicest people on this earth. Seriously, she gives so selflessly and always looks at life with a glass half full mentality. One of these days A and I will travel to Cali so we can witness it in person.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about what my "dream job" is. I throw around a lot of options, but it usually all comes back to the same job.

In a perfect world, I would be Jeannie on Ellen.

Does it get any better than her job? I don't think so. She gets to travel everywhere to bring people good news. I mean, seriously, she has to have the most rewarding job there is! Yesterday she traveled to NC to present a single mom with $10,000 and her two daughters with front row tickets to Justin Bieber. All in a days work, I guess.

She also recently traveled to Australia to show the lucky audience members of the Nicole Kidman episode what they were in for when they took their trip in a few weeks.

Oh, you didn't hear? Yes, Ellen gave away an all expenses paid trip to Australia to an entire audience. If you still don't think that she is the nicest person, your head needs to be examined.

I didn't know much about Jeannie until I watched this video. The gist of if: Jeannie was a huge fan of Ellen and sent in MILLIONS of letter for 6 years to try and win a prize. Ellen caught wind of this and called her up one day to tell her...that she still didn't win anything. She then went on to offer her a JOB at the Ellen show. Jeannie went from crazed fan to receptionist to what she is now.

She has the best job ever because she didn't give up. She went on writing letters and entering contests for SIX years. I don't know about you, but I would probably stop after I didn't win the first 5 I entered.

She has the best job ever because she worked for it. How am I supposed to get my dream job if all I do is sit here and think about it? Not going to happen. I've got to work at it and put myself out there. I've got to DO SOMETHING.

So that's one of my Lenten goals. Yes, I am giving something up, but I also like to make goals. In the past, I've made goals to work out every day, make a daily prayer journal, etc. But this year my goal is to figure out what I want to do and try and make it happen. I may not succeed, after all, it's only 40 days, but at least I tried.

  2. This is AMAZING!!! And I seriously tell Glenn every single day that my dream job is to be anything associated with the Ellen show, but Jeannie's takes the cake! She's such a sweetheart and I love the story of how she got the job - I had no idea! We DVR Ellen every day too and I watch it while I cook dinner. She makes my whole heart smile and I truly think she's the most incredible person in the world :)

  4. That is such an intense story of perserverence! I love that she never gave up, and was rewarded in such an enormous way for her efforts. I am sure that if you can stick with your goal for lent that you will see some big results too. Good luck!

  9. yes girl! i love this! it's crazy - in my business, the people who succeed are just like jeannie, in that they literally don't stop regardless of the outcome. being an actor means just non-stop rejection, i mean like literally non-stop. so eventually everyone falls off, but the remaining few? they get the golden ticket. thanks for the reminder! your calling will speak to you, especially since you're actively listening :) xo

  11. even though Ellen is on our competitive station, I can't help but watch it at my desk. 4:00 is by far the best part of my day BECAUSE of Ellen.

  13. Ellen is the best. She is hilarious, so kind to people and animals, and she dances! She is definitely one of my favorites. We watch her show all the time too. I can't believe Jeannie got her job that way, that is awesome and so refreshing! Definitely motivating!
