wedding wednesday

Iiiiiit's wedding wednesday time! But not really. I've been doing all of these wedding updates, but I haven't actually told you guys the story of how k + a became k + a. Feast your eyes on our little love story. It's a long one, just warning ya.

Way back in 2008 (was this really 5 years ago?!?!) I was a junior at LSU and had recently bonded with some crazies named Alexa (Al) and Lindy (Lin). Al and Lin lived together and had been taking some pretty awesome looking trips to Lafayette. There may have been some casual mentioning that their recent trip looked like fun, and bam, I was invited on the next one. Al is my bestest friend ever from college, clearly I made a good choice on wanting to join in!

Fun fact - this was one of the pictures I saw from their previous trip. Can you guess who that hunk-a-munk os on the left?

It makes me laugh to this day to look at this picture. My two besties and my future husband - who I had never met. Life is cray!

Moving along, after I weaseled my way into the next trip, we had to wait for a football-free weekend to head to Lafayette. Missing a football game at LSU is unheard of. Maybe just in the SEC in general. We found one and hit the road around 8pm on Friday with our daiquiris in hand. Yes, we have drive through daiquiri establishments, and no, the driver was not drinking hers while driving. What kind of girls do you think we are?!

We went straight to the bar to meet up with Al's best friend from high school, Bubba. I know what you are thinking, he's not fat and he has all of his teeth. Little did we know, we were crashing a date function between Kappa Sig and Kappa Delta. Whoooops! We grabbed our Mich Ultra 65 (remember when those were all the rage?) and had a blast.

The first picture I showed you in an earlier post and the last one just makes me laugh because it's another one of my future husband and my best friend.

And the second one. Ah, memories. This picture explains the reason as to why  spent the next year thinking that A was a big huge creep.

You see, in college A worked for a liquor distributing company. He delivered alcohol to the grocery stores and kegs to the bard. To deliver said goodies, he had to drive a van. As in, a big ole creepy white van. Andre 3000 quickly became Creep Thousand which quickly became Uncle Andre. You know, as in that creepy uncle that you wouldn't want your kids around? So these facts combined with that gross photo explains why I steered clear of him for the rest of the night. You would, too!

So I continued to go to Lafayette multiple times that semester and the next one. I would hang out with A's friends and fraternity brothers - and at every hang out, A was there too. But of course, I didn't talk to him because he was the creepy guy. Duh.

Fast forward to June of 2009. My good friend Stephanie decided to come into BR for an Eric Church concert on a Thursday night. It was summer and I wasn't in school, just working, so we made a big night of it. This was back when I could do crazy nights multiple nights in a row, so we made plans for Bubba (same one from above) to come in Friday night and go out with us. Steph and I are getting ready that night and Bubba calls to say he's in the parking lot...with Andre'. I specifically remember looking at Stephanie and saying "What the hell! He brought the creepy guy?!" Apparently I got over it because we headed out to Shady's (yes, a bar called Shady's. BR is super classy) and had ourselves a fun night. We even tried to hook A up with one of Bubba's friends from high school. We ended the night by making jambalaya at 3 AM. (My roommates loved me, clearly.) And as if two nights in a row were not enough, we decided to go Tiki Tubing on Saturday, which meant waking up at 9 AM. (I am tired just thinking about this weekend.)

Tiki tubing consisted of drinking all day long. So of course we decided that we should drive to Lafayette that night and go out for a Sig Ep rush party. (Oh to be 21 again!) Steph and I got all cleaned up and dolled up and headed out to meet Bubba and Mr. Creep at The Pub. It still is in my memories as one of the best nights I have ever had in college.

So where are all the pictures from this most amazing college weekend ever? Well, unfortunately the night ended with Stephanie and I getting mugged. A was driving a bunch of the guys back to the Kappa Sig house and Steph and I were going to meet them there. The guys waited to drive off until they saw us get in our car (as all good gentlemen should do!). Stephanie started the car and I looked up after buckling my seat belt and saw a man running towards us. The parking lot was empty other than us, so this was strange. He ran to Stephanie's door and opened it (it was an older car and it did not lock upon starting it) and grabbed her purse. He then ran over and opened mine. They say that reactions are either fight or flight. Steph chose flight and I chose fight. I had a crossbody bag on and I was not going to let him have it. I kicked him where it supposed to hurt, but homeboy was so high that it didn't even phase him, so he punched me in the nose and dragged me out of the car onto the gravel. At that moment I decided to just let him have the purse. He ran off and I took off running to the bar, crying and screaming at them to call the police. Later I found out that Stephanie tried to chase the crazy man with her car. The fight came out! Honestly, the reason I kicked him in the balls was because I decided that he should not be allowed to have a child, and the reason I didn't want to give up my purse was because I took some pretty flipping awesome pictures that weekend!!

After many hours of police interviews and nose checking (wasn't broken!), we were able to get ahold of Bubba through one of the bartenders and he took us back to the Kappa Sig house. I called my parents (4am! Just what every parent dreams of!) and they drove from Houston to come get me. It's 8AM and they pick up their sweet baby girl from the president's room of a fraternity house. HAHAHA.

I arrived that night in Houston to a Facebook message from A. He felt that it was his fault we got mugged because he didn't wait for us to drive off. I was telling Steph about it and she told me, "you know, I was talking to him about it and he asked me if you said anything about him. I think he has a crush on you. I told him that thinking about you was the last thing on her mind." It was the last thing on my mind, but a seed was planted.

A week later, while sitting in the police department waiting on the detective to take us through a lineup, Steph decided to guilt trip A into taking us to a movie. She said since it was his fault and all, he owed it to us. And he totally fell for it. What a sweet boy :)

Yes, this is the same night that I kissed him in the rain.

And there you have it - the not so love filled love store of Kaitlyn & Andre'. I should really thank that crazy man, without him I probably would still think that Andre' was a creepy dude.

As if that wasn't long enough, check out some other wedding posts here!

My hubby and I actually went to college together and had some of the same friends (but didn't meet until years out of college!) Anyways, I love your Wedding Wednesday idea! 9. Hehe, your love story is too cute and funny! Who would have thought you would one day be involved in all those shenanigans and police dept... to an eventual kiss in the rain. Glad he is no longer the creepy dude. :)

  10. What a crazy love story! I love that you thought your future husband was a total creeper based on his work van. And my goodness, you make me sad for my sorority days and doing all of those same things. I saw y'all sorority squatting in that picture, and all I could think of is that when I try to get my friends to pose for pictures now, I have to coach them. Sorority girls just get it.
